Got a Renewal Letter? Here’s What to Check Before You Let It Auto-Renew

If you have a plan through Connect for Health Colorado, a renewal letter is probably on its way, or already in your inbox. It’s tempting to set it aside and let your plan roll over.

But “renewed” doesn’t mean “the same.” Your price, your doctors and your tax credit can all change for 2027. A 10-minute check now can save you hundreds of dollars, or a surprise bill later.

What Changed This Year

For 2027, Connect for Health Colorado is automatically re-enrolling eligible customers at the start of Open Enrollment. That means your 2027 plan may already be picked for you before you’ve looked at a single option.

The good news: you’re not locked in. You can switch to a different plan any time during Open Enrollment, and your new choice replaces the renewal.

The catch: Connect for Health Colorado itself says auto-renewal doesn’t guarantee your premium, financial help, benefits or network will stay the same.

Not everyone is auto-renewed. If you have a Cigna plan, Cigna is leaving Colorado’s individual market, so you’ll need to pick a new plan. If you aren’t eligible for auto-renewal for another reason, your letter will say so and ask you to submit a new application.

Your Renewal Checklist

1. Price

Premiums are rising about 10% on average in 2027. Compare your current monthly cost to your 2027 cost on the renewal letter.

Then look past the premium. Check the deductible and out-of-pocket max too. A plan with the same premium can still cost you more if the deductible went up.

2. Network

Insurers change their networks every year. Search the 2027 provider directory for:

  • Your primary care doctor
  • Any specialists you see
  • Your nearest hospital

Call the office to confirm. Directories aren’t always up to date.

3. Prescriptions

Look up each medication in the plan’s 2027 drug list. If a drug moved to a higher tier, your copay goes up. If it’s no longer covered, you may pay full price.

4. Tax Credit

Your 2027 tax credit is based on the income and household in your account. If either is out of date, your tax credit is wrong too.

Log in and update it if you:

  • Expect to earn more or less in 2027
  • Got married, divorced or had a baby
  • Have a child who moved out or turned 26

Estimating too low means you may owe money back at tax time, with no cap on how much.

If Something’s Off

Shop and compare. Connect for Health Colorado says that, after financial help, about 6 in 10 customers could find a plan for $10 a month or less if they compare their options.

To switch, log in to your account during Open Enrollment, update your information and choose a new plan. Your new choice replaces the automatic renewal.

Dates to know:

  • November 1, 2026: Open Enrollment starts
  • December 15, 2026: Last day to switch for coverage starting January 1
  • January 15, 2027: Open Enrollment ends. Changes made after December 15 start February 1.

The bottom line

Auto-renewal is a safety net, not a decision. Before December 15, check four things: your price, your doctors, your prescriptions and the income in your account. If any of them changed, compare plans before you let it renew.

Send us your renewal letter and we’ll check all four for you, then show you whether a different plan would save you money.
